Quote from the article:
"He ended the program telling the students: “You have more power than you think you do with this information. Talk to your younger brothers and sisters. Talk to your friends about the dangers. And if you’re hurting, don’t keep it inside. Talk to an adult. Tell someone.”
Larry Bakke said he appreciated the assembly and said kids can hear the same information from their parents and choose not to listen.
“But when it comes from a professional who has dealt with it, they tend to listen,” Bakke said."

Why teach Internet safety in schools when the classrooms along with the academic schedules are already so crowded? The answer is simple. It's needed. The Internet is increasingly becoming a part of everyday life. Today children of all ages turn to the Internet for information, news, entertainment, and friendship. It is important to address the risks that come with this wonderful new technology. When personal safety is addressed in the classroom, students can learn from each other and practice generalizing the knowledge in a safe environment.

Benefits of this Seminar
-
They will be better able to recognize danger and resist potential offenders .
- We will be able to deter many offenders who look for and prey on vulnerable children.
- We can break the "cycle of victimization" in which some of those who have been victimized later become offenders.
The Kdcop program activities were developed and provided by teachers for teachers with the child's Internet experience in mind. These activities were designed to help children develop Internet safety skills and critical thinking skills necessary for personal safety.
Children can use the Internet at home, school, daycare, or libraries as well as on handheld devices. The Internet is an amazing, dynamic, and interactive environment for learning; however, many parents and educators are concerned about the new dangers that this wonderful technology brings with it. Kdcop.com brings Internet information to you so that you can help your children stay safer online.
